Songs about Money and Debt, Communism and Solidarity (working title) is a lecture performance inspired by anthropologist David Graeber’s book Debt. The First 5,000 Years. About the origin of money and debt – debt slavery, slave labor, debts as the creator of a network of relationships, debt and moral – but also about hierarchy, equality and inequality, communities, communism and solidarity. Interesting is the question of how and when money itself became a goal and worth pursuing, when money began to be used to make money – when the seeds of exploitative capitalism were sown. By talking about history, I try to reach timelessness and big lines that I reinforce with details of small everyday things.
Companions in the process include Jörn Burmester Wium, Juhani Liimatainen, Tero Nauha, and Heidi Soidinsalo.
