Performing in WAUHAUS‘ Private Dancer.
Private Dancer invites the audience to listen, to observe and to engage in fantasies. It is an intimate experience in a shared space. It is a performance offered simultaneously for one and for many.
Private Dancer builds and deconstructs the borderline between private and public using sound. Headphones worn by the audience enable the stage and the performers to reach inside us. The private space created by the headphones invites us to ask if the others are hearing the same. Is my experience exclusive, or it is shared?
Private Dancer was performed in Zodiak, Helsinki, in October, and in Kanuti Gildi SAAL, Tallinna, in December, 2017. It is the final part of the trilogy that has truly catered for the senses. The previous parts Dirty Dancing and Flashdance premiered in Zodiak in 2014 and 2016.
W A U H A U S is a Helsinki-based art collective consisting of scenographer Samuli Laine, director Anni Klein, choreographer Jarkko Partanen and sound designers Jussi Matikainen and Heidi Soidinsalo, who is my co-performer in Private Dancer.
