Bone Garden
With sound archaelogist Riitta Rainio, we built Bone Garden to Turku, into the medieval basement of The Old City Hall. Bone Garden aimed to become a Stone Ageish sound installation. It was based on Riitta’s research on the Ajvide burial ground on the island of Gotland. It had three parts: with stuff, without stuff, and a disco. The with stuff part was a pass, which we constructed of tables that we found in the cellar, 150 kg of stones, elk and wild boar bones, and geese feathers. Audience had to walk through it. It was dark in there. The without stuff part was soundscape I composed of Riitta’s recordings from Gotland. In the disco we dressed people with teeth pendants, and then we danced! This all took place during one day on August 11, 2015.
Bone Garden belonged to Floating Platforms event, organised by New Performance Turku and Aboagora.

In December, 2017, Riitta’s big effort bore fruit, and Journal of Sonic Studies published her article on the sounds and sonic experiences of the hunter-gatherers at Ajvide.
